Baron Road Weather Safety Platform with Contextual Data Greatly Enhances Driver Safety in the Connected Car

TU-AUTOMOTIVE DETROIT, June 3, 2015 – Baron, a global provider of critical weather intelligence, announces the availability of its new contextual Road Weather Safety platform. Delivering value throughout the entire connected car ecosystem, this powerful solution can be implemented in various stages of the product development lifecycle. The Baron Road Weather Safety Program can take advantage of onboard processing and vehicle information to enhance autonomous driving features, or utilize connected devices to inform the driver.

The key to the Baron road weather solution is contextual, forward-looking and actionable information. Drivers receive improved situational awareness through personalized, time-sensitive and location-specific information, such as notifications of slippery or flooded roads ahead. Changing conditions relative to travel time and distance from hazardous conditions are taken into account, helping the driver make proactive, safe decisions.

Each year, 1.3 million automotive accidents are caused by adverse weather conditions. The findings account for 6,250 deaths and 480,000 injuries in weather-related crashes annually. To inform the driver of impactful conditions at their exact location, patented algorithms take millions of data inputs, including sub-surface, surface and atmospheric data, and create a matrix of road conditions that is continually updated every 60 seconds.

The new Baron Road Weather Safety Platform creates a new business opportunity for industry providers looking to increase driver safety and efficiency. Easy technology transfer methods ensure a quick and direct implementation for anyone interested in integrating this driver safety solution. “The connected car creates new opportunities for collaboration,” said Glen Denny, president of Baron Enterprise Solutions. ”Baron looks forward to working with everyone in the connected car value chain to bring services that improve driver safety and increase efficiency.” Baron currently serves over 33 makes and models of automobiles with its first-generation road weather solution, currently marketed as XM NavWeather.

Baron will be speaking at the TU-Automotive conference in Detroit and will be presenting on the business of weather in the connected car of the future on June 4 at 3:40 pm. Baron will also be participating in the Sensor Fusion: Autonomous Alchemy panel on June 3 at 4:30 pm.
