Baron Welcomes Steve Bray as New Director of Broadcast Meteorology

Experienced industry professional to support Baron’s Broadcast Television division with driving clients to on-air success

Baron is pleased to announce the addition of industry veteran Steve Bray to its broadcast team. With almost 30 years of experience in the broadcast business, Bray joins the company as the new Director of Broadcast Meteorology where he will work with current broadcast clients to help them produce and highlight engaging, exclusive weather content for its audiences.

Bray will develop strategies with the broadcast team to expand Baron’s customer service offerings. “As a former news director and chief meteorologist, Steve provides a critical perspective to support the broadcast division on a number of fronts,” says Ardell Hill, president of the Baron broadcast division. “His past leadership and success in broadcast meteorology make him an excellent fit for our team. I know he will help us continue to support our current and future clients and guide them to on-air success.”

Most recently, Bray served as the news director at WISH-TV, a CW-affiliated television station located in Indianapolis, Ind., where he managed newsroom staff while implementing research strategies to build brand loyalty. His career at WISH-TV began in 1995 as a meteorologist and grew as he delivered quality on-air weather forecasts, led an award-winning weather team and brought home numerous honors for his accomplishments. Bray held multiple titles at WISH-TV including chief meteorologist, news and weather operations manager, and science and technology editor, giving him an in-depth understanding of many areas within the broadcast television market. In 2013 and 2014, his team received the regional Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence. Bray also earned honors from the Associated Press, as well as Regional Emmys, Broadcast Association Spectrum Awards and more. Prior to his career at WISH, he served as the chief meteorologist at KPLC-TV and WALA-TV.

Bray earned his B.S. in Meteorology at Northern Illinois University in 1985. He completed a Science Reporting Fellowship at Cal-Tech University, and an Essential Skills for News Managers curriculum at Poynter News University.

His research and project management skills have allowed him to successfully carry out brand development and help stations achieve organizational goals. At Baron, he will continue to study the evolution of the broadcast television industry, bringing his expertise directly to the clients.

“I believe my past experience has prepared me for my next chapter—driving another organization to success,” says Bray. “I’m proud to be a part of the Baron team and helping our clients continue to expand their capabilities using Baron weather technology and exclusive content. I look forward to providing our clients with unique solutions to enhance their coverage with life-saving critical weather intelligence.”
